Stockholm: Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, author of controversial caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) died in a collision with truck. He was 75 years old.
The accident occurred near the small town of Mercury when the car collided with an approaching truck. As per police, both vehicles caught fire and the truck driver was hospitalized.
Following the deadly collision, the 75-year-old man and two policemen were killed.
“It was investigated like any other car accident. Because two police officers were involved, an investigation was assigned to a special section of the prosecution,” a police spokesman said, adding that there was no suspicion of an offense
Lars Vilks was living under police protection after his 2007 depiction of the Prophet Mohammed prompted death threats. The Swedish police confirmed to country’s TV channel SVT.
