Fayaz Chohan removed as Punjab govt's spokesperson

Lahore: In a reshuffle of the Punjab cabinet, Fayazul Hasan Chohan on Wednesday removed as the provincial information minister, GNN reported.

The Chief Minister's Office has issued a notification in this regard according to which Punjab has appointed Hassan Khawar as the provincial spokesman.

As per notification, Hassan Khawar will act as spokesman for the Punjab government and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Punjab Information Services.

The move apparently came as a surprise to Chohan.

This is the third time that Chohan, who is also Punjab Prisons minister, has been appointed, after previously being removed from the information portfolio. Last year in November, he was removed as the provincial information minister.

In March 2020, Chohan faced heavy criticism on social media for his derogatory remarks directed towards the Hindu community following which the government had to remove him for the second time.

However, he was reinstated as the Punjab information minister only months later, replacing Mian Aslam Iqbal, who had excused himself from the charge.

On August 13, 2021, the notification was issued to appoint Fayazul Hasan Chohan as the spokesman of the Punjab government.
