New Delhi: The death toll from flash floods and mudslides in northern India has reached to 72, disaster authorities announced Monday.
According to details, the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) revealed that another 26 individuals sustained injuries in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, while four remain missing.
Reportedly, at least 224 houses were destroyed amid the heavy rains followed by landslides wreak havoc in the state, pulling an emergency alert.
As per SEOC, the highest casualties—almost 35 were recorded by Nainital district.
Rescue operations were launched by the authorities soon after the rains battered the state, leading to massive destruction.
In addition, groups of several trekkers who had gone missing in the mountains and were hit by the bad weather last week were also among the deceased.
