Tharparkar: Ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has lost six by-elections in a week after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) managed to keep its national assembly seat in the by-polls held a day earlier in Tharparkar

According to the unofficial results, PPP candidate Syed Pir Amir Ali Shah secured 103,502 votes to win the National Assembly constituency NA-221 Tharparkar beating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Nizam-ud-Din who managed to secure 50,553 votes.
The voter turnout was 45%, while the number of registered voters in the contituency was 281,900.
Twelve candidates were contesting the elections in 318 polling stations. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of PPP’s Member National Assembly (MNA) Noor Mohammad Shah.
On February 20, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged victorious on two provincial assembly constituencies of Wazirabad (PP-51) and Nowshera (PK-63) defeating PTI’s candidates. Nowshera’s result came as a major shock for PTI which is in government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2013.
On February 17, PPP retained both its provincial assembly seats in Karachi and Sanghar contested in by-polls. Similarly, another leader of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)’s candidate Syed Azizullah Agha won the PB-20 Pishin, Balochistan, by-elections.
In NA-45 Kurram, PTI candidate Malik Fakhar Zaman won the seat, whereas the result of National Assembly constituency NA-75-Daska is pending with ECP ordering inquiry following fears of alterations in results of 20 polling stations.
