Renowned poetess Parveen Shakir remembered on her death anniversary
Urdu poetess Parveen Shakir was also known as ‘Commuter of Fragrance’


Lahore: Pakistan's famous poetess Parveen Shakir is being remembered on her 27th death anniversary today.
Parveen Shakir was born on 24th November 1952 in Karachi. She received her education and went onto became a civil servant in her native town.
She wrote her first book Khushbu (fragrance). Her books named Pazeerai (recognition) and Judaai (separation) reflected of the reality of the world. The bold tone used in her book Larki was the special aspect of her writing style.
Parveen Shakir became a much-admired poetess with her first published collection Khushbu in 1976.
In 1990, she received the Pride of Performance award over her noteworthy contributions to Urdu literature in Pakistan while she had also served as a teacher and a civil employee. She was also awarded with Adamjee Award in 1976.
Parveen Shakir lost her life at the age of 42 on December 26, 1994 in a deadly car accident in Islamabad. Her works and contribution to Urdu poetry are still remembered today.
