Pakistan to start tri-national container train service
Pakistan Railways have decided to start a tri-national container train service to reduce the deficit of more than Rs43 billion.
Railway officials have decided to run a container train between Islamabad, Tehran and Istanbul from March 4 under the ITC agreement between the three countries.
The distance between Turkey and Tehran-Iran border is 6,500 kilometres and the container train will reach the Iranian border in 12 days. The proposed route will also boost imports and exports to European countries.
Pakistan Railways aims to significantly reduce the deficit, including revenue for the railways.
