The Punjab Education Department has decided to open schools on alternate days in Punjab’s seven districts including Lahore and Rawalpindi.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab School Education Department on Friday, some changes have been made in the notification issued earlier on January 28, according to the new changes, Districts where number of positive COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours are more than 20, it has been decided not to resume five-day classes there.
According to the notification, only 50 per cent students will attend schools in Lahore, Gujrat, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad.
Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had announced that from March 1, five-day classes would begin as usual in all schools in Pakistan.
In a tweet on Thursday, the federal education minister said, “Schools in some major cities were banned from taking breaks until February 28, This announcement applies to every educational institution in the designated cities where restrictions had been imposed. Allah SWTs infinite mercy that we are returning to normal.”
After being closed for six months in Pakistan, the schools were announced to reopen in September last year but were closed again back in November.
In Pakistan, as in other parts of the world, schools were closed and online classes were announced after the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Recently, some schools reopened in January, but there were many where classes were not held as usual five days a week.
A few days ago, the federal government had issued a notification for the start of the new academic year in August, while the majority of private schools are adamant that they will start the new session in April.
