Seoul: US-manufactured South Korean F-5E fighter aircraft has crashed Tuesday while gaining altitude after takeoff from the air base in Suwon, South Korean Air Force said.

As per details, the pilot was found dead in South Korea's fighter jet crash accident, state’s news agency reported Tuesday.

The pilot was a single passenger aboard the fighter and was found dead near the crash site.

The F-5E combat plane of the 10th Fighter Wing of the South Korean Air Force crashed into a hill around 60 kilometers south of Seoul, at about 1:44 pm local time (0444 GMT).

The fighter jet crashed while gaining altitude, said officials.

The cause of the accident, however, is yet to be determined.

No civilian casualties were reported as the plane crashed into a hill.

The Northrop F-5 is a family of supersonic light fighter aircraft designed in the late 1950s by the US aerospace and defense Northrop Grumman Corporation.
