Islamabad: Pakistan Test Cricketer Yasir Shah has been declared innocent in a sexual assault case registered at Islamabad’s Shalimar police station, GNN reported Wednesday.
As per police, the cricketer’s name has been dropped from the First Information Report (FIR) after the complainant retracted her statement, saying Yasir Shah’s name was mistakenly included.
The preliminary report of the police said, “Yasir Shah has no link to the alleged rape case [...] the complainant has also requested to remove Yasir Shah's name from the case”.
The player was booked over charges of rape and harassment of a 14-year-old teenager last year in December.
But the victim has now retracted her statement.
In December 2021, the teenager alleged that Yasir’s friend identified as Farhan, raped her at gunpoint and also filmed her obscene video.
The cricketer and his friend also threatened her to share the video on social media, the FIR added.
She claimed that Yasir also warned of embroiling her in a case if she approached the authorities.
The victim further added that when she approached the police, the national cricketer proposed to buy her a flat and bear her expenses for the next 18 years.
