Computer Prodigy Arfa Karim remembered on her 10th death anniversary
Karim represented Pakistan at various international forums and was also invited by tech giant Bill Gates to visit Microsoft Headquarters in the US.
Lahore: The 10th death anniversary of the world’s youngest Microsoft certified professional Arfa Karim Randhawa is being observed on Friday (January 14).
Arfa became the youngest recipient of the Pride of Performance Award, that country’s president gives as a lifetime achievement award and is regarded as the highest civilian award.
She received the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of Science and Technology. She also received the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award, again from the President of Pakistan.
At the age of nine, she became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional in 2004 from Pakistan and kept the title until 2008.
In July 2005, Arfa was invited to visit the United States (US) by the Microsoft Corporation, where she met the co-founder of the company, Bill Gates and presented her Microsoft Application Certificate for her achievements and performance in the information technology sector.
On December 20, 2011, Arfa suffered a cardiac arrest after an epileptic seizure that damaged her brain.
Hence, she died on 14th January 2012, at the age of 16.
