Indian, Chinese troops clash again
Sikkim: Indian and Chinese troops brawled once again in Naku La in north Sikkim last Wednesday. The incident took place when Indian troops stopped a Chinese patrolling party in the region.
According to details, some troops sustained minor injuries during the scuffle while some reports said sticks and stones were used, but there were no gunshots.
In an official statement Indian Army said, “It is clarified that there was a minor face-off at Nakula area of North Sikkim on 20 January 2021 and the same was resolved by local commanders as per established protocols.”
On the other side China on Monday said both sides must refrain from escalatory actions. It is important to mention that both sides have around 50,000 troops each in the region, along with additional weapons, tanks and air defence assets.
Tensions are high along the world's longest disputed border. Both sides claim large areas of territory. At least 20 Indian soldiers died in a skirmish in the Ladakh area last June. Since the violent hand-to-hand fighting there, numerous rounds of talks have been held over the past few months to disengage troops facing each other off in freezing temperatures. The ninth round of them took place between military commanders on last Sunday in eastern Ladakh running for several hours to try and find a way out of the logjam but there have been no details of any agreements.
