Test series: Pakistan win toss, bat against England
Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is back in the team
Multan: In the first match of the three-Test series between Pakistan and England, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first on Monday.

Oct 5 riots: PTI arrested workers discharged from trial in Lahore

Lahore: The workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who were arrested in the Lahore riots on October 5, were discharged from the case.
Judicial Magistrate discharged 17 persons from the case including Musarat Jamshed Cheema, Rai Mohammad Ali and others.
The court, in a written order, said that the police had sought physical remand for 10 days for recovery of batons and investigation. No MLC was present with the request for physical remand. The investigating officers have so far failed to get the CCTV footage.
The written order stated that the allegations leveled by the police were not true, and the physical remand request of the police was rejected. All the arrested persons were discharged from the case. If the arrested persons are not wanted in any other case, they should be released immediately.

Sales of petroleum products plunge by 3pc on annual basis in Pakistan
Sales of petroleum products were recorded at 3.68 million tonnes
Islamabad: In the first quarter of the current financial year, the sale of petroleum products in the country recorded a three percent decrease on an annual basis.
According to Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) and industry data, sales of petroleum products were recorded at 3.68 million tonnes in the first quarter of the financial year, which is three percent less than 3.81 million tonnes in the first quarter of the previous financial year.
In September 2024, the sale of 1.27 million tonnes of petroleum products was recorded in the country, which is five percent more than in September last year.
According to the data, 1.85 million tonnes of petrol, 1.42 million tonnes of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) and 0.21 million tonnes of furnace oil were sold in the first quarter of the financial year.
In the first quarter of the last financial year, the country recorded sales of 1.85 million tonnes of petrol, 1.44 million tonnes of HSD and 0.35 million tonnes of furnace oil.
