PTI-backed SIC leader Hamid Raza nominated for PAC chairman
The latest reports say that Hamid Raza’s name has been finalized after due deliberation.
Islamabad: The PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) officially nominated Hamid Raza for the position of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, the sources said on Wednesday.
After extensive discussions within the party leadership, Hamid Raza emerged as the finalized nominee for the PAC chairman role.
Initially, PTI founder Imran Khan had proposed Sher Afzal Marwat for the PAC chairman position. However, the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat declined to appoint Sher Afzal Marwat, citing that the selection of the chairman is not limited to opposition members.
The sources said that Noor Alam Khan from Maulana Fazalur Rehman's Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) is a strong contender to be elected as the PAC Chairman by the parliament. The ultimate decision rests with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq.
According to the NA Secretariat, both treasury and opposition members are eligible for the PAC chairman role, as per legal and house regulations. It is rumored that Noor Alam Khan, who previously held the PAC Chairman position after a successful vote of no confidence against then Prime Minister Imran, is the frontrunner for the role.
The PAC is constituted jointly by the National Assembly and the Senate, with members from both chambers participating in the selection process. Later, the PAC members will elect their chairman to lead the committee.
