Peshawar: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to buy 300 thousand metric tons of local wheat.

According to the provincial food minister, the government has fixed the price of wheat at Rs3900 per maund and the government has decided to buy 300,000 metric tons of local wheat.

Food Minister Zahir Shah Toro said that 29 billion rupees have been allocated for the purchase of wheat, buying wheat at the local level will save Rs9 billion.

It is pertinent to note that the announcement of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has come at a time when farmers have been forced to sell their cultivated wheat on the streets of the city due to the delay in the purchase of wheat in Punjab and the farmers' organizations have also called a protest on April 29 outside Punjab Assembly.

Quetta: Chairman Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) Mahmood Khan Achakzai's arrest warrant has been suspended.

The Judicial Magistrate yesterday issued an arrest warrant for Mahmood Khan Achakzai, chairman of PMAP.

Today, the investigating officer informed the court that there has been a non-compliance of the warrant by the head of the Milli Awami Party.

The Judicial Magistrate suspended the arrest warrant of Mehmood Khan until the next hearing which has been set on May 31.

It is pertinent to note that the district administration registered a case against Mahmood Achakzai on March 11 for interfering in the official property. He was booked under section 448 and section 447 at Gwalmandi police station.

Earlier on March 3, 2024, the Quetta administration raided the residence of party chairman Mahmood, which was strongly condemned by the PMAP.

It was reported that the Quetta administration claimed to end Mahmood Khan Achakzai's illegal occupation of a portion of government-owned land.

Mehmood Khan Achakzai had contested the election as a presidential candidate against President Asif Ali Zardari.

The party alleged that the raid was carried out at Mehmood Achakzai's residence and was a response by "state institutions" to Mahmood Achakzai's recent speech in the National Assembly.

However, the Deputy Commissioner of Quetta, Saad Asad, said that the raid was carried out to recover a part of the land near Achakzai's residence.

Saad Asad had alleged that the reclaimed land (which has an area of 2.5 kanals) was surrounded by four walls and illegally occupied by Mehmood Achakzai.

He stated that revenue officials and law enforcement agencies had taken back the illegally occupied land and taken it into custody.

A committee headed by the Assistant Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Quetta was formed to identify illegal encroachments on land owned by the Balochistan government, after which the local administration called on the police and the revenue department yesterday. The raid was carried out in collaboration with the authorities.

A number of places were identified by the committee, including several public and private properties, which were allegedly illegally occupied by various people.

On March 4, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto had condemned the raid on Mehmood Achakzai's house while addressing the assembly session.

Bilawal Bhutto said that due to this matter the presidential election is being controversial for no reason. He also appealed to take action against the alleged raid on Mehmood Achakzai's house.
