GERD may increase risk of larynx and esophageal cancers
A new study has found that Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) may increase the risk of larynx and esophageal cancers.
GERD is a gastro disease in which the contents of the stomach may rise back up into the esophagus. Patients often suffer heartburn, regurgitation, chest pains, persistent cough and nausea.
GERD is relatively common, with obesity, pregnancy and smoking being common risk factors for the disease. Previous evidence had suggested that there is a link between GERD and certain cancers, however, there is no conclusive evidence even after the latest study.
