Pakistan reports 1,207 coronavirus cases, 14 deaths

Islamabad: Pakistan imposed new restrictions to curb the fast-spreading Omicron variant, hence, the positivity rate now stands at 2.25%. While, the cumulative tally of the country has now climbed to 1,507,657.

As the fifth wave of COVID-19 intensifies, Pakistan reported 1,207 new coronavirus infections, a new daily record, with authorities linking the spike with the Omicron variant of virus.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 1,207 persons were tested positive while 14 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 30,153.
As many as 1,440,292 patients have recovered from the disease.
Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 500,789 in the province with 13,493 causalities.
Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 567,000 in the province, while the death toll has reached 8,062.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 215,936 in the province with 6,237 casualties.
Balochistan
There are 35,322 confirmed cases while 375 patients have died from the infection so far.
AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 42,909 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 787. On the other hand, there are 11,461 cases in GB with 190 coronavirus deaths.
Islamabad
There are 134,240 cases in the capital city while 1,009 people have lost their lives.
