NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz nullifies Suri’s ruling on 123 PTI resignations
PPP senior leader and former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has taken oath as National Assembly speaker after being elected unopposed
Islamabad: Newly-elected National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Saturday nullified the approval of the resignations of 123 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers by ex-deputy speaker Qasim Suri.
According to details, PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf ordered presenting the resignations of PTI lawmakers in the assembly secretariat again immediately after taking oath as the 22nd Speaker of the National Assembly.
The new speaker ruled that approval of resignations of 123 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers by ex-deputy speaker Qasim Suri was null and void.
It is pertinent to remember that Qasim Suri resigned as NA deputy speaker minutes before the session to vote for the no-confidence motion against him. The NA session was to convene today at noon with the removal of Suri and the election for the new speaker on the agenda.
Before stepping down, Suri had approved the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs after the joint opposition triumphed in the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.
A notification signed by NA Secretary Tahir Hussain declared that the related seats had become vacant with effect from April 11.
