Four killed, scores injured as stand collapses during Colombia bullfight
Four people were killed and about 70 injured in partial collapse of bullring in Colombia
Bogota: At least four people have been killed—two women, a man and a minor—and about 70 others sustained injuries in central Colombia when part of a wooden stand collapsed during a bullfight, provincial officials said.
According to details, the disaster took place in a stadium in the city of El Espinal in Tolima state during a traditional event called “corraleja” in which members of the public enter the ring to engage the bulls.
The event was part of celebrations surrounding the San Pedro festival.
Videos taken during the bullfight show a multi-story section of the stands collapsing as people screamed.
No one remained trapped in the wreckage, Major Luis Fernando Velez, director of civil defence in the province, told local Caracol television, and several people reported as missing have been found.
As per media reports, ambulances were sent from the nearby cities of Ibague and Melgar to help the injured, who have overwhelmed El Espinal's hospital.
