T20 World Cup: Two-time champions West Indies knocked out, Ireland win by 9 wickets
ICC T-20 Cricket World Cup: Ireland beat West Indies to advance in Hobart
Hobart: In the International Cricket Council (ICC) T-20 Cricket World Cup 2022, Ireland defeated two-time champions West Indies by nine wickets at Hobart in Australia on Friday.
Ireland advanced in the T20 World Cup by dumping out two-time champions West Indies with a nine-wicket victory.
Batting first, West Indies scored 146 runs for the loss of five wickets in allotted twenty overs. In reply, the opposing team chased the target with the loss of one wicket and fifteen balls in hand.
Notably, Windies won the title in 2012 and 2016, however, they lost to Scotland in their opening match on Monday, while Ireland is a Test nation in their own right.
This is an awful result for West Indies, who will not feature in the main phase of a T20 World Cup for the first time.
In the second match today, Scotland will face Zimbabwe at the same venue at 01:00 pm.
