San Francisco: Elon Musk Wednesday said that he will resign as Twitter's chief executive officer (CEO) when he finds someone "foolish enough to take the job".

In a tweet, Musk said he would resign “as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!”

He added that following his resignation as CEO, Musk would “run the software & servers teams” at Twitter, indicating he may continue to influence the company’s decision-making significantly.

Elon Musk’s statement came after 57.5% Twitter users voted decisively in a poll for him to step down, which the billionaire launched on December 19.

Putting up the poll on Sunday evening, Musk promised that he would abide by the result.

Elon Musk has been working as the CEO of both Tesla and the social media platform leading to much disgruntlement over how he has been handling things at Twitter.

He himself admitted that he has too much on his plate and that he would relinquish his Twitter duty once he gets a successor.

Changes on the platform since his takeover have been much criticized.

It is pertinent to mention here that Musk’s poll asking users whether he should resign as CEO came after a massive backlash to Twitter’s abrupt suspension of several journalists who cover him, as well as his decision to ban, and then un-ban, links to other social media platforms.
