Age limit for receiving CanSino jab changed

According to details, after the age limit being changed single-dose vaccine can now be administered to septuagenarians.

The single-dose Corona Vaccine can be administered at the Tarlai Center in the Federal Capital Territory of Islamabad.

Apart from Islamabad, the CanSinoBIO vaccine is being administered only to people over 80 across Pakistan.

The government of Pakistan has been administering two coronavirus vaccines — both Chinese — at the state level. These include the single-dose CanSinoBIO jab and the double-dose drug manufactured by China National Pharmaceutical Group, or Sinopharm.

Earlier, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said that total vaccinations carried out so far have crossed one million. The minister turned to Twitter and confirmed that more than seventy-six thousand vaccinations were carried out yesterday.

He said the total number of people registered so far for anti-Covid vaccination is now over two million.

"More than 76,000 vaccinations were carried out yesterday. The total number of people registered so far is now over two million; 600,000 health care workers and more than 1.4 million 50 plus," he wrote.

He urged people aged above 50 to get themselves registered for the vaccination.

"Please register if you are 50 plus," he added.

Earlier today,  in another tweet the minister stated that the Covid-19 positivity rate is declining in Pakistan due to increased lockdown restrictions and enforcement of coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Pakistan is presently experiencing its third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than the previous two days.

According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 3,953 cases of coronavirus were reported while 103 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 14,924.

The total number of confirmed cases reached 696184.

As many as 618,158 patients have recovered from the disease with 3,645 critical cases.

Vaccination drive in Pakistan

On January 25, Pakistan authorized the emergency use of Russia's Sputnik V, making it the third anti-Covid-19 vaccine after Oxford University-AstraZeneca and Chinese Sinopharm approved by the country against the deadly coronavirus.

In February, the drive kick-started with healthcare workers being administered the jab in the first phase.

On March 10, the vaccination drive for 60 above began across Pakistan. The senior citizens are being administered the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

On March 30, the government opened coronavirus vaccination registration for people who are 50 and above.
