“Mission Majnu”: Netizens mock India for vague Pakistani stereotypes
Pakistanis flood Twitter with hilarious memes and jokes after Indian film Mission Majnu’s trailer
Lahore: Twitter is flooded with rib-tickling and hilarious memes after the trailer of India’s upcoming movie “Mission Majnu” was released— with many saying that Bollywood can’t seem to get over its lame stereotypes about Pakistanis.
Bollywood star Sidharth Malhotra has become the butt of everyone’s jokes with his black Surma (Kohl), amulet, hackneyed clothing and, last but not least, his greetings—involving Adaab and Janaab.
The 148-second trailer alone has generated Twitter skirmishes in Pakistan over how Pakistan is depicted in the movie.
Most people have picked up on how it does not reflect Pakistani culture or the day-to-day lifestyle.
Netflix dropped the official trailer for Mission Majnu on Tuesday. The anecdote illustrates a Pakistani man who is an Indian spy on a covert operation to expose nuclear weapons in the heart of Pakistan that India must “neutralise”.
However, the only thing that got “neutralised” on social media platforms was the movie’s storyline, costumes and dialogue.
Netflix is scheduled to release “Mission Majnu,” on January 20 2023.
The film faced multiple delays in its release. It was first scheduled for theatrical release on 13 May 2022, and then June 10, 2022 before being postponed indefinitely. Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the movie could not be released in theatres and was eventually acquired by Netflix.
The makers of Mission Majnu claim that the film is based on “true events”. However, it is a make-believe content as both Indian and Pakistani nuclear programs have remained secret.
It is pertinent to mention here that there was nothing illegal about Pakistan’s development of nuclear weapons.
Nevertheless, Pakistani Twitter is really over the “adaab” and janabs“ in the film.
