Prominent businessman Byram D Avari passes away in Karachi

Karachi: The renowned businessman and athlete, Byram Dinshawji Avari has died at the age of 81 on Sunday in Karachi, the family confirmed.

According to his family sources, Byram underwent a surgery in hospital few days back but his health did not recover and doctors put him on ventilator.

The condition was critical that he could not survived and passed away in the hospital.

The businessman had also won two gold medals in the sailing competition of the Asian Games. He was awarded the Pride of Performance Award for Sports (Sailing) in 1982.

He was a prominent leader belonging to the Parsi community, he was famously known in the country’s business community and hospitality industry.

Avari was the owner of the Avari Group of hotels that functions various five-star hotels across Pakistan.

Avari Group was the first company to obtain international hotel management contracts and operates a 4-star hotel in Dubai comprising 200 rooms. His firm also manages a 200-room Ramada Inn in Toronto at Pearson Airport in Canada.

He was affectionately known as ‘Baba’ by staff and admirers, who is survived by his wife Goshpi and children Dinshaw, Xerxes, Zeena and his grandchildren.

The final rites of Avari will be performed today (January 23).
