Shehbaz Sharif selected FIA, NAB heads to get rid of corruption cases: Imran
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief has accused former Army Chief Gen retired Qamar Javed of saving Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from conviction in Rs16b and Rs8b corruption cases registered with the FIA and NAB.
Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday once again lamented Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accusing him of making appointments of heads of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of his own choice to get himself cleared of two corruption cases of Rs18b and Rs8b respectively.
Imran Khan said that this was how the country was turning into a banana republic.
He also revealed that it was General retired Qamar Javed Bajwa who saved Shehbaz Sharif from conviction in Rs8b case of money laundering and Rs16b case registered by the FIA.
Taking to Twitter, the PTI Chief wrote, “What future can a country have when crooks are thrust as rulers upon it? SS was about to be convicted by NAB for Rs 8 bn money laundering & by FIA for another Rs 16 bn corruption when he was rescued by Gen Bajwa who kept getting NAB cases trial postponed. While under trial he was,”.
He also tweeted, “made PM. He has since proceeded to select heads of those institutions investigating his cases - first FIA & now NAB - simply to get his name permanently cleared in Rs 16 bn corruption & Rs 8 bn money laundering cases against him. This is how a country becomes a banana republic,”.
His strong reaction came a day after he delivered a speech and said that he was ready to talks for the sake of the country and was not fond of taking revenge for himself. For the first time, he showed some leniency for talks besides announcing election campaign from the next week for upcoming general elections in Punjab.
Earlier in the day, the police reached Zaman Park to serve notice to the PTI Chief for his appearance before a court in Islamabad on March 7.
The latest reports suggested that there was a huge crowd of the PTI supporters outside the residence of Imran Khan while the anti-riot force was preparing to disperse the workers.
