Petrol prices jacked up by Rs10 per litre before Eid-ul-Fitre
The latest reports say that the price of petrol has gone up to Rs282 per litre, while high speed diesel (HSD) and light diesel oil prices remain unchanged at Rs293 per litre and Rs174.68 per litre, respectively.
Islamabad: The federal government of Pakistan has announced an increase in petrol prices by Rs10 per litre for the next 15 days, according to a statement released by the Finance Division on Saturday. The statement cites an increase in global petroleum prices and exchange rate fluctuations as the reason for the hike.
As a result of the increase, the price of petrol has gone up to Rs282 per litre, while high speed diesel (HSD) and light diesel oil prices remain unchanged at Rs293 per litre and Rs174.68 per litre, respectively. The price of kerosene oil has also been increased by Rs5.78 per litre, from Rs180.28 per litre to Rs186.07 per litre.
The timing of the announcement, just a week before Eid-ul-Fitre, has caused concern among citizens who are already struggling with high inflation and were planning to do Eid shopping. This decision comes after Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had announced on March 31 that petrol and diesel prices would remain stable for the next 15 days.
It is worth noting that the authorities had increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs5 and Rs13 per litre on March 15.
