The 2021 year’s Academy Awards scheduled on Sunday, 25th April was an in-person ceremony and participants were not required to wear face masks while they were seated in the main showroom and on camera.

The 93rd annual Academy Awards made history before the first award was even handed out.

The Oscars 2021 brought barrier-breaking wins, including the first woman of color to win best director and the first Black women to win best makeup and hairstyling.

Due to travel restrictions and a need for greater social distancing because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year’s show has been spread across several locations.

Here is the complete list of winners who crowned the 93rd annual Academy Awards

Best Picture

Nomadland took home the coveted best picture award.

Best Director

Chloe Zhao (Nomadland)

Chloe Zhao ultimately won the best directing award, becoming the second female to take home the prize

Best Actor

Anthony Hopkins (The Father)

The 83-year-old Welsh actor wasn't at the ceremony and it was collected on his behalf by Joaquin Phoenix. Anthony Hopkins is now the oldest actor to have won the award.

Best Actress

Frances McDormand (Nomadland)

She'd barely sat down at the ceremony as she had to get back up and collect another award.

The total of three wins for Nomadland which is being believed the most on the night for any film.

Best Supporting Actor

Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah)

Daniel Kaluuya for portraying his role in Judas and the Black Messiah crowned the Oscar.

Best Supporting Actress

Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)

The South Korean actress almost went weak at the knees after being introduced by Brad Pitt who played the wickedly kind grandmother in the heart-warming tale of a South Korean family trying to make it in America.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton (The Father)

Best Original Screenplay

Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman)

Best Animated Feature

Soul

The movie ‘Soul’ took home the best animated feature award, is also Pixar’s first film to feature a Black character in the lead.

Colette

The film follows French Resistance member Colette Marin-Catherine as she travels to Germany, where her brother died at the hands of the Nazis.

Best Short Film (Animated)

 If Anything Happens I Love You

It’s a film about two grieving parents. The directors Will McCormack and Michael Govier dedicated the win to anyone who has lost a loved one to gun violence.
