Third major incident of Holy Quran desecration in Denmark
Iraqi, Turkish, Egyptian, and Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs have highly condemned this act and warned Denmark to take serious action against it.
Copenhagen: In a highly condemnable act, a group called "Danish Patriots" conducted an act of sacrilege by setting fire to the Holy Quran in front of the embassies of Egypt and Turkey in The Hague, Denmark's capital.
According to reports from international media, the incident took place on Tuesday.
It was not the first time the "Danish Patriots" had resorted to such an offensive act, as last week, they also burned the Quran outside the Iraqi embassy.
Reacting to the incident, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called upon the European Union to urgently address the issue of freedom of expression and the right to protest, ensuring that such hateful actions are reconsidered.
Turkey also strongly condemned the Quran's desecration on Tuesday, urging Denmark to take special measures to prevent such hateful crimes against Islam.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the other hand, expressed its disapproval of the Quran's disrespect by appealing to Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The Danish government, while denouncing the burning of the Quran as an incendiary and shameful act, clarified that such actions do not represent the sentiments of Denmark.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated that he has already had a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart, Fawad Hussain, discussing the bilateral relations between the two countries and the matter of Quran desecration.
Professor Train Bombach from the University of Copenhagen stated that when people resort to protests, it can be a constructive way of expressing their opinions.
However, he emphasized that such protests should never include physical harm or destruction of objects.
