WASA hikes tariff by 175% in Punjab

Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) increased its tariff to 175 percent in response to rising power and fuel costs in order to close a budget gap on Thursday.

A notification states that the tariff has increased by 500 percent for commercial consumers and by 175 percent for domestic consumers.

According to the notification, the consumers in Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi will be in charge the increased cost.

Furthermore, sources claim that the cost has increased for the first time since 2009, when the electricity unit was Rs 6.

As the cost of per unit electricity has reached Rs60, the rise was inevitable by the WASA, the sources said.
