Railway bridge collapse claims 17 lives in India
The collapse raises concerns of further casualties as dozens of workers were on the construction site.
Delhi: A devastating incident occurred in India as a railway bridge collapsed, resulting in the tragic loss of 17 workers' lives.
According to Indian media, the incident took place in the northeastern state where an under-construction railway bridge in the Mizoram region collapsed.
Officials fear that there might be more individuals trapped beneath the debris of the collapsed bridge. A rescue operation is underway to search for these individuals.
Authorities have expressed concern that around 35 to 40 workers were on the construction site of the bridge, raising the possibility of additional casualties.
Reportedly, the construction work of the railway bridge was ongoing in the district of Saiha, located in the Aizawl district of the isolation city, when the collapse occurred.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the victims and announced financial assistance of 200,000 rupees for the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees for the injured individuals.
