Lahore: There's a looming possibility of rain interrupting crucial matches of the Asia Cup 2023. Notably, the Pakistan-India encounter is scheduled to take place in Pallekele, Sri Lanka, on September 2nd.
As per Indian media, continuous rainfall has been observed in Pallekele over the past couple of days, and various weather agencies have been predicting heavy rain throughout the week.
According to a weather forecasting website, there's a 72% chance of rain in Pallekele this week.
This news of potential rain has left cricket enthusiasts disappointed, especially because Pakistan and India tend to face off mainly in significant matches organized by the Asian Cricket Council and ICC.
During August and September, Sri Lanka typically experiences sunny and clear weather, with minimal cricket matches scheduled during these months.
Pallekele has hosted 33 One Day Internationals (ODIs) in the past 11 years, with only three ODIs played during August and September.
This indicates a tendency to avoid scheduling matches during the monsoon season.
When it became clear that the Indian team wasn't prepared to travel to Pakistan, the host country for the tournament, there was hardly any option left for the Asian Cricket Council other than to rely on the High-Performance Model.
Therefore, despite weather predictions, the tournament is moving forward with its schedule.
