Beijing: China has introduced its alternative called "Ernie Bot" through the tech company Baidu to challenge and potentially outperform its competitor, ChatGPT.

According to media reports, the Chinese tech company Baidu has introduced its "Ernie Bot" as a direct competitor to ChatGPT with the aim of defeating its rival in the tech sector.

The report suggests that the Chinese government has recently imposed new regulations for AI developers.

The purpose is to allow them to continue participating in the race against companies like OpenAI and Microsoft while also exerting strict control over online information.

One noteworthy aspect of "Ernie Bot" is that it is intended for domestic use in China and is not available for users in other countries.

The Chinese tech company Baidu has expressed its satisfaction in announcing that "Ernie Bot" has been available to the general public since August 31, making it the country's first such app.

Baidu is actively working on developing a suite of AI apps similar to ChatGPT, with the aim of providing users with enhanced features and capabilities.

While "ChatGPT" was introduced in March, its availability was limited.

Baidu's CEO Robin Li has stated that they are continuously working to improve their app so that people can benefit from positive effects.

"Ernie Bot" contains all the features found in ChatGPT, and it is advised to handle sensitive subjects with care, as per guidelines issued in a recent media briefing.

When tested on Thursday via the AFP news agency, "Ernie Bot" gave answers to unusual questions, such as "What is the capital of China?" and "Do you have any hobbies?" However, it was the same response for sensitive topics like Beijing's Tiananmen Square in 1989 and Taiwan. The answer was, "Let's change the subject and start again," highlighting its programmed avoidance of contentious subjects.

Baidu is one of China's largest tech companies and has faced competition in various sectors, including Tencent.
