ECP to announce general election date soon
The Election Commission of Pakistan shortened timelines for constituency delimitations.
Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has shortened the timelines for constituency delimitations, with the final announcement set to be completed by November 30.
The Election Commission is also expected to announce the date for the general elections soon.
Chief Election Commissioner, Sikandar Sultan Raja, chaired a crucial meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan, where the duration for constituency delimitations was curtailed, and the final announcement regarding delimitations will be made by November 30.
During the ECP meeting, discussions revolved around various important matters, including the announcement of the election schedule.
On the other hand, consultations with political parties are underway concerning election preparations.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja held a meeting today with a delegation from the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), focusing on the revision of constituency boundaries and electoral lists.
The GDA presented its demands related to elections, including support for proper constituency delimitations and a call for expeditious completion of the constituency delimitation work.
Dr. Fahmida Mirza emphasized that transparent elections would not be possible without accurate constituency delimitations.
The GDA delegation also raised concerns about the transfer and posting of provincial officers despite a letter written to Sindh's caretaker chief minister.
Chief Election Commissioner assured that the Election Commission evaluates these suggestions carefully and will make decisions in accordance with the constitution and the law.
