Babar Azam sets new record as fastest to 2,000 ODI runs

Lahore: In a remarkable feat of batting prowess, Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, has etched his name in the record books as the fastest captain to amass 2,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

This historic achievement unfolded during the Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh, hosted at Lahore's iconic Gaddafi Stadium.

Babar Azam contributed 17 runs from 22 balls in the ODI contest, solidifying his reputation as a cricketing sensation.

Babar Azam's remarkable journey to 2,000 ODI runs was completed in just 31 innings, surpassing the previous record held by former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who achieved this milestone in 36 innings.

Prior to this feat, Babar Azam had already made headlines by becoming the fastest player in the world to reach 19 ODI centuries in terms of innings played. He accomplished this remarkable feat during the opening match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal, held at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Displaying his batting brilliance, the right-handed batsman compiled a majestic innings of 151 runs, securing his 19th ODI century in a mere 102 innings. This achievement shattered the previous record held by South African cricketer Hashim Amla, who achieved the same number of centuries in 104 innings.
