Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Punjab chief secretary to make a decision regarding a petition requesting the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the Jaranwala tragedy within a 15-day timeframe.

Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi issued this directive during the hearing held on Friday, following a negative response from the public prosecutor when asked if a judicial commission had been formed to investigate the incident.

The petitioner in the case urged the high court to issue orders for a judicial commission to investigate the Jaranwala tragedy, citing a violation of the fundamental rights of the minority community (Christians) involved in the incident.

The petitioner argued that the current investigation process had now been slow, raising doubts within the Christian community about whether it will deliver the justice and fairness they seek.
