SM Tanveer unveils plan to boost agricultural research quality

Lahore- Punjab Caretaker Minister for Agriculture, Industry and Trade S.M Tanveer unveiled plan to boost agricultural research quality on Friday.

He was chairing the meeting held at the committee room of the Planning and Development Board.

Provincial Minister for Transport Ibrahim Murad, Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahu, Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University, CEO of Punjab Agriculture Research Board and Heads of Agriculture Research Institutes attended the meeting.

On this occasion it was decided to reform the agricultural research system. Collaboration between academies, research institutes and extension departments will be increased to improve the quality of agricultural research. A technical group was formed to coordinate the agricultural research system.

A five-member technical group under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor of Agriculture University Faisalabad will make recommendations in 15 days along with collaborating in agricultural research and will give an action plan to coordinate the research process. It was also decided to establish a Revolving Agriculture Research Fund during the meeting. 

A comprehensive policy will be made for the timely payment of agricultural scientists for their completed projects. Provincial Minister S.M Tanveer directed not to allow any political interference in the research work. He said that such a plan will be made by mutual consultation which will promote agriculture.

“We have taken forward the process of agricultural research by keeping the model of agricultural research in front of the world,” he said adding that the universities and research institutes should carry out the research process in a coordinated manner in order to increase the agricultural production.
