Karachi: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Saturday announced its plans to construct modern runways at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, in accordance with international standards.

The CAA took the initiative to develop both runways, designated as 25R/07L and 25L/07R, to meet the highest standards in aviation infrastructure. As part of this project, the CAA has invited eligible companies to participate in the bidding process for the construction of these primary and secondary runways.

In a statement issued by the CAA, it was emphasized that companies, whether domestic or foreign, interested in the bidding process must possess the requisite experience, skills, and financial capabilities. Additionally, companies based in Pakistan must be registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council.

The CAA has scheduled a pre-bid ceremony for interested parties, which is set to take place on October 17, 2023, at 11:30 AM, located at Terminal One of Jinnah International Airport.

Last month, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) also made significant decisions aimed at enhancing airport infrastructure and safety measures. During a board meeting held in Karachi, the PCAA approved plans for the construction of a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and a Rescue Fire Fighting (RFF) complex at Jinnah International Airport.

The existing ATC tower, which has served for an impressive 91 years, faces limitations related to height and is no longer deemed suitable for modern aviation requirements. The approval of a new, modern ATC tower is expected to address these limitations while substantially enhancing visibility and flight safety. The project is anticipated to be completed within a year.

Besides it, the decision to establish an RFF complex is aimed at strengthening fire safety measures at Karachi Airport, further enhancing the airport's safety protocols.

These initiatives reflect the commitment of the aviation authorities in Pakistan to modernize and enhance the infrastructure and safety standards of the country's airports to meet international benchmarks.
