US desires peace but will defend itself: Antony Blinken on Iran relations
Iran remains steadfast in its dedication to regional peace and stability.
New York: In recent statements made at a United Nations Security Council meeting, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has emphasized America's commitment to peace and a desire to avoid conflict with Iran.
However, he asserted that the U.S. will firmly defend itself and its personnel if threatened.
Amid rising tensions between the two nations, Blinken's comments shed light on the United States' stance regarding Iran.
He acknowledged that the U.S. seeks to avoid further escalation in ongoing conflicts, such as the Israel-Hamas situation.
Still, he made it clear that any direct attack on American personnel by Iran or its proxies would prompt an immediate and decisive response from Washington.
The U.S. military is taking proactive measures to protect its troops in the Middle East due to growing concerns about potential attacks by Iran-backed groups.
These precautions aim to deter any hostile actions by such groups.
"Rather than exacerbating the situation, our intention is to quell tensions," Blinken stated during the UN Security Council session.
On the other side of the debate, Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Erwani, refuted Blinken's accusations linking Iran to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Tehran vehemently denied any baseless allegations made by the U.S.
He asserted that Iran remains unwavering in its commitment to regional peace and stability.
