The Islamabad High Court rejected the request to send the Al-Azizia reference backtt to the accountability court


Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday acquitted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
According to the details, a hearing on Nawaz Sharif's appeal against the sentence in the Al-Azizia reference was held in the Islamabad High Court today.
A two-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb held the hearing and reserved the decision.
However, later, the IHC issued a short verdict accepting the appeal against Nawaz Sharif's sentence in the Al-Azizia reference and acquitted him in the case.
It is pertinwnt to note that earlier on July 6, 2018, the accountability court of Islamabad sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 11 years in prison in the Avenfield reference.
Also, on December 24, 2018, the Accountability Court of Islamabad sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison and a fine in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
On October 26 this year, the IHC had reinstated the appeals against the sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references on the plea of (N) League leader Nawaz Sharif.
In recent days, the Islamabad High Court has acquitted former Prime Minister in the Avenfield reference by declaring his sentence of 11 years in prison null and void.
