‘Giving gender color to PTI women jailed over May 9 incidents is not correct,’ says PM Kakar

Islamabad: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar said that giving gender color to the PTI women booked in different cases or put behind the bars is not correct.

“Giving it color of gender is not correct. For instance, if the women are in a normal agitation equally like their male counterparts then there is no issue. If they start violent agitation then the law will determine their fate. The women will not get gender advantage if they get involved in such unlawful activities,” said the PM while responding to a question posed by News Edge Anchor Fareeha Idrees regarding the PTI women leaders like Yasmin Rashid who have been in jail for last seven months during an exclusive interview to GNN on Tuesday.

Responding to another question about cases after cases against the PTI leaders and workers these days, the PM Kakar said, “there could be shortcomings in the justice system as all the political parties should sit together and reform this system,”.

He said, “if the cases are being registered then these are the civil institutions which are involved and they are doing this, the political parties should realize it, they should address and reforms these institutions when they come into power,”.

To another question about Bhutto reference and other cases and that whether the preferences such as these are correct, the PM said that CJP Isa is a great jurist and he has great family background. He said there should be no objection if someone is going to address a matter of historical significance.

“There is a debate continuing about different topics regarding the role of the judiciary and the political history. If someone is going to address a matter with great significance in the past nobody should object,” said the PM.

When asked that what legacy he would like to set after leaving the interim setup ,  the PM said that they just wanted that there should be no big stain on them.

The PM Kakar also emphasized upon the organic growth of the political parties and development under a political and democratic process.

“If you want western style democracy then you need political parties’ growth—an organic growth—for true democracy in the country,” said PM Kakar, emphasizing that organic development is the only best way for an effective political system.

“If there is democracy within the political parties the minus one will automatically will come an end,” he said.

“Personality cult is left if the party does not go through a process and thus people starting seeing the whole system through this prism,” said Mr. Kakar, making it clear that he was not talking about any particular personality or individual.

To another question that which party is democratic in his views at the moment,  PM Kakar said that Jamat-e-Islami is a democracy party.

To another question about PPP’s objections about level playing field, PM Kakar said that the parties should be dear to the public and for this purpose, the parties needed to address the needs of the public. He believed that the shelf life of a popular leader or party would be shorter if nothing is done for the public.

“Sheikh Mujeeb was very popular but he was later killed. The popularity all together got reversed,” said the PM.

Responding to another question about the neutrality of the establishment, PM Kakar said that the establishment is neutral in his view, pointing out that there is no hardcore evidence about the interference of the establishment in the political system.

“How do you see your relationship with the establishment?, asked Fareeha to which he replied, “I have excellent relationship. You should not create unwarranted confrontations,”.

The PM emphasized upon the service of the public.

“There are two approaches about establishment; one is about conquering the establishment and the second one is the lead and for leading,” said the PM.

When asked about the impression of the PML-N that it was going to make the next government, PM Kakar said that such impression is created by every political party.

“I have to monitor the election process,” said the PM.

To another question, the PM said that he could join any party but there is also a possibility that he would pursue his own goals independently after the interim government.

The caretaker PM appreciated the state institutions including the military for effective system to manage the illegal foreigners’ stay in Pakistan, saying that “repatriation will continue till the end,”.

He stated that they are committed with the privatization with the PIA and other entities. He also took credit of maximum tax collection, rationalization of exports and action against power theft in the country.

“For many things, we are not responsible. We did not decide generation of the electricity on the current rates. We have limited strengthen,” said the PM, emphasizing upon creating sense regarding the deals with the IPPs.

“We need to rationalize the energy, because generating electricity against high price and then selling it against the low practically is not possible. The public should understand it in the simple words,” he explained.

“SIFC has statutory support because it has all legal support. There is no challenge in its way. We are excited that the army as an institution is here, so the institutional arrangement will continue even after the interim government,” he added.
