Karachi: Two suspected cases of new corona variant have come to light in Sindh, Health Department confirmed.

According to the details, during the corona testing of two air passengers arriving in Karachi revealed that they were suffering from the new corona variant.

It has not been ascertained yet that which variant these two have fallen victim to. Officials have expressed fear that these two new cases may be of the new corona variant JN1 which is spreading rapidly around the world which the governments are deeply concerned about.

The two cases of the new corona variant in Sindh came to light a few hours after Caretaker Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem said in the Senate that no case of the new corona variant has been reported in the country.

It has been reported that the two persons who have been diagnosed with the new corona variant are between the ages of 50 and 60 years and had come from Bangkok and Jeddah respectively on Thursday and Friday.

The two air passengers who arrived in Karachi showed symptoms of flu and the rapid antigen test showed that they were suffering from corona virus. Both samples have been sent to a local university lab for final analysis.

Officials said that the new variant of Corona is highly contagious, the patients should be quarantined to protect others.

Both passengers were allowed to go to their hometowns of Dera Ghazi Khan and Sanghar under quarantine instructions.

Officials also said that only 2% of passengers on a flight were screened through the rapid antigen test. The Sindh Health Department stated that the National Command and Operation Center has not issued any instructions regarding quarantine facilities.

JN1 is the most rapidly spreading corona variant and currently accounts for 60% of the cases of corona in the United States. There has been a sharp increase in the number of patients in hospitals over the past three weeks.

Dr. Rafiq Khanani, president of the Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan, said that JN1 has covered more than 50 countries, including America, Europe, Africa, China, India, Canada and Vietnam. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also issued an alert in this regard.

He also said that apart from flu symptoms, this disease is also associated with severe anxiety and lack of sleep.

The new variant of Corona is not very severe, but the elderly are more targeted because their immunity is particularly low. In this regard, the government should take special precautions, added the doctor.
