NEPRA decides to increase power connection’s security fee

Lahore: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to increase the security fee of electricity connection.

According to the details, electricity distribution companies have filed an application in Nepra, in which the electricity connection security fee for domestic consumers has been requested to be increased from Rs1220 to Rs18,000.

Officials stated that consumers with a load of less than 10kw will have to pay Rs20,000 per kw and for connection on a single-phase meter, consumers will have to pay up to Rs24,000.

However, a request has been made to increase the security fee from Rs610 to Rs7,800 per kilowatt in rural areas while consumers with more than 10 marla land will have to pay one percent of the property rate.

Nepra further said that it has been decided to increase security for industrial, street lights and housing societies as well, under which the fee for commercial and small industries has been requested to be increased to Rs 57,000 per kilowatt from 2010.

Ministry of Power Division has decided to increase the security according to the bills of 3 months but after the hearing in Nepra, demand notices will be issued by increasing the security fee.

It should be noted that earlier the connection fee has been increased in July 2023 as well.
