Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has called for a sales tax on petrol.

The IMF has demanded the federal government to impose 18 percent sales tax on petrol and remove the sales tax exemption on all items including petrol.

The International Monetary Fund has demanded the federal government to implement sales tax along with levy 60 rupees. The tax revenue should be increased by eliminating sales tax exemptions.

Increasing power tariff

On the other hand, following the demand of the IMF, the federal government has started preparations to impose an additional burden of 967 billion rupees on the electricity consumers.

According to the media reports, six government electricity distribution companies have submitted applications in National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase electricity prices for the next financial year which will be heard on April 2.
