Imran, Shah acquitted in two cases of Haqeeqi Azadi March

Islamabad: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad Monday acquitted former Prime Minister Imran Khan, former Federal Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and others in two cases registered during the Haqeeqi Azadi March.

According to the details, the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad heard two cases filed against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership for vandalism during the Azadi March and violation of Article 144.

During the hearing, PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan, Naeem Haider Panjotha, Sardar Masroof Advocate, Amina Ali Advocate appeared in the court along with Former Minister Asad Umar.

Later, the court acquitted Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Ali Muhammad Khan, Murad Saeed.

It is pertinent to note that two cases were registered against Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood and other leaders in Golra police station in 2022.

Notably in March, the District and Sessions Courts of Islamabad acquitted 11 accused including Imran Khan and Awami League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in two more cases of protest and vandalism during the Long March.

In the context of PTI's long march that ended in Islamabad in May 2022, the police across the country registered dozens of cases against PTI leaders and workers for serious violations including Section 144.

In the twin cities, police in the capital had registered at least three cases against PTI leaders and activists for resisting law enforcement and damaging state property, including setting fire to metro bus stations.
