Govt approves increase in electricity price by Rs1.90 per unit
The latest reports say that the increment has been made as part of the quarterly adjustment
Islamabad: The government has approved increase in the electricity price by Rs1.90 per unit for the ongoing month of June as part of the quarterly adjustment, the latest reports say.
NEPRA has announced an increase in the electricity prices and imposed an additional burden of Rs46.61 billion on the consumers.
According to the notification, two different quarterly adjustments would be applied simultaneously in June.
For July and August, the per-unit price would increase by Rs0.93.
The notification specified that the additional charges would be collected from the consumers between June and August 2024, as part of the third quarterly adjustment for the current fiscal year.
Previously, NEPRA had sent the decision to increase electricity prices to the federal government for approval. On June 1, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a Rs3.76 per unit increase in electricity prices for consumers nationwide, including Karachi, as part of the quarterly adjustment.
In June, two different quarterly adjustments would be implemented together, potentially raising the maximum per-unit electricity price to Rs65.
