Islamabad: The Election Act Amendment Bill on Tuesday has been tabled in the National Assembly and referred to the relevant standing committee by the Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

The National Assembly session was chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. PML-N member Bilal Azhar Kayani introduced the Election Act Amendment Bill in the House.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the major opposition party in NA opposed the bill and chanted slogans of "No, no."

The Election Amendment Act 2024 introduces two amendments. The first amendment modifies Section 66 of the Election Act 2017, and the second amendment modifies Section 104 of the Election Act 2017.

The first amendment states that the declaration of affiliation with any political party cannot be changed. The second amendment stipulates that any party that has not submitted its list of reserved seats to the Election Commission will not be allocated reserved seats.

According to the Amendment Act 2024, these two amendments will come into effect immediately upon approval.
