Govt announces compensation package of Rs5m for families of missing persons
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar says government’s commitment to resolving the issue of missing persons, which has troubled the country for many years

Islamabad: The federal government on Friday announced a compensation package of Rs5 million for the families of missing persons.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, speaking to the media in Islamabad, emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the issue of missing persons, which has troubled the country for many years. He linked the problem to the aftermath of the Afghan war and the subsequent rise in terrorism.
Tarar pointed out that Pakistan was previously exploited by global powers, leading to its current challenges. He stressed that the government has been actively working on the recovery of missing persons and has established special committees to tackle the issue.
This effort spans both the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government and the current caretaker government.
Recognizing the significant suffering of the families of missing persons, Tarar said that a comprehensive report was prepared in consultation with intelligence agencies and state institutions.
This report, approved by the cabinet, served as the foundation for the government’s assistance to the affected families.
