Notices to parties on Election Amendment Act appeal, response sought

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday issued notices to the federal government and others on the various petitions filed against the Election Amendment Act 2024.

Justice Shakeel Ahmed of Lahore High Court heard the petition of citizen Munir Ahmed.

The counsel for the federal government opposed the petition, while the petitioner argued that the act sought to nullify the decision of the Supreme Court on reserved seats. Election Amendment Act 2024 cannot be applied retrospectively. It should be declared unconstitutional.

The petition has also requested to restrain the allotment of reserved seats to any party other than PTI till the final decision.

During the hearing, Advocate Azhar Siddique took a position that the application in the Supreme Court against the Election Amendment Act is available as an objection, while the application is admissible in the Lahore High Court.

The LHC issued notices to the federal government and others on the various petitions filed against the Election Amendment Act 2024 and sought their response by August 23.
