Bus accident in Iran leaves 35 Pakistani pilgrims dead, 15 wounded

(Web Desk): At least 35 Pakistani pilgrims were killed and 15 others critically injured in a bus accident in the Iranian city of Yazd late on Tuesday. According to initial reports, the accident occurred due to the failure of the brakes.

The accident took place in the central Iranian province of Yazd and was caused by a technical defect in the bus braking system, according to preliminary investigations made by the Iranian traffic police.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. Most of the passengers belong to Larkana, Ghotki and other cities of Sindh.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the tragic bus accident of Pakistani Zaireen in Iran.

The President and the Prime Minister commiserated with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

The President directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring the bodies to Pakistan and provide timely aid to the injured.

The Prime Minister said directions have been issued to Pakistan's mission in Tehran to extend all possible assistance to the affected families.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of Pakistan to Tehran Mudassir Tipu has said Pakistan embassy officials are overseeing emergency arrangements in Yazd where a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims met an accident.

The ambassador, on his X timeline, assured the maximum facilitation and medical treatment of the injured. He said he is in liaison with the Iranian government and the office of the Mayor of Yazd for crucial arrangements.
