Karachi: In a significant move to bolster Pakistan's cybersecurity infrastructure, the National Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Network Information Center Pakistan (NIC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The collaboration aims to enhance the nation’s resilience against the ever-growing threats of cyberattacks, cyber terrorism, and cyber espionage.

The MoU was signed during the 25th ITCN Asia in Karachi and attended by senior officials from both organizations, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership that will focus on the protection of Pakistan's digital assets, sensitive information, and critical infrastructure. The collaboration will leverage the expertise of the National CERT in cyber defense and the NIC’s extensive work in promoting digital awareness and sustainable digital growth.

National CERT is the premier government entity responsible for safeguarding Pakistan’s cyberspace. Tasked with the mission of defending the nation against cyber threats, CERT plays a crucial role in securing critical infrastructure and sensitive data from the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats. Through proactive measures, monitoring, and rapid response, CERT ensures that Pakistan remains vigilant against cyberattacks that could compromise national security.

Network Information Center Pakistan (NIC), a non-profit organization, is at the forefront of promoting digital empowerment across Pakistan. With a vision to create a digitally empowered society, NIC is dedicated to enhancing the digital well-being of the nation. It serves as a cornerstone for the digital era, driving awareness about the benefits and utilities of the internet, fostering a culture of responsible digital citizenship, and advocating for sustainable digital growth.

The partnership between CERT and NIC will involve collaborative efforts in several key areas:

Cybersecurity Awareness and Education: Joint initiatives will be launched to educate the public, government agencies, and private sector entities on the importance of cybersecurity, best practices, and the latest threats.

Threat Intelligence Sharing: The MoU outlines a framework for real-time sharing of threat intelligence between CERT and NIC, enabling more effective identification, mitigation, and response to cyber threats.

Capacity Building: Both organizations will work together to enhance the technical capabilities of cybersecurity professionals in Pakistan through training programs, workshops, and conferences.

Research and Development: Collaborative research efforts will be undertaken to develop innovative solutions to emerging cybersecurity challenges, ensuring that Pakistan stays ahead of potential threats.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony Dr. Haider, Director General National CERT, expressed optimism about the partnership: "This MoU marks a significant step forward in our mission to secure Pakistan’s digital landscape. By partnering with NIC, we are not only strengthening our cybersecurity capabilities but also promoting a culture of cyber awareness and responsibility across the nation."

Umer F. Pirzada, Director of Network Information Center, added: "Our vision of a digitally empowered Pakistan aligns perfectly with the goals of the National CERT. Together, we will work towards creating a secure, resilient, and sustainable digital environment for all Pakistanis."
