Islamabad: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar On Monday said that the parliament holds supreme legislative power and is above the verdicts of Supreme Court.

Talking to media in Islamabad, he said only the assembly elected by the people has the right to enact legislation.

“Law is very clear that an independent candidate has to join a political party within three days therefore there are some confusions which will be cleared in a revision appeal,” Tarrar stated.

He maintained that the process of joining a party of an independent candidate was irreversible while reiterating that the legislation of the parliament was supreme than the decisions of the Supreme Court.

He recalled the verdict of the Peshawar High Court in which it upheld the decision of the Election Commission with a majority of 5-0.

Responding to a question, Tarar said PTI was not a party in cases in ECP, Peshawar High Court or Supreme Court while loyalty of an independent candidate could not be changed after joining a party.
